Ok, here goes nothing! It's almost three in the morning, and while there are probably plenty of other things I could be doing right now (including sleeping) I am choosing to embark on this new journey in the realm of blogging.

So can I tell you a story? I am in this new phase where I am tired of being petrified of all things bug related. Naturally, this led to me going outdoors a lot more often so a friend and I decide to go kayaking in the local river. This sounds fun, right? Wrong. I thought I would take it up a notch and attempt paddle boarding, which is where you stand on a flat board with one paddle with the objective of moving down the river, staying afloat, and enjoying nature all in one. After my friend left me in the wake of her kayak as I manage to balance myself on this "specially designated" board (so says the lifeguard guy who gave it to me). After the initial anger and shock of being left alone on this challenge left me, in came the calm and the sense of 'I can do this being one with nature thing'.  I was gliding along, almost enjoying the small obstacles of waves as a flash of black came across my face and scared me so bad I immediately lost balance and fell straight to my knees with my main goal of not tipping into the chemical and snake infested river. Once the board stopped forcefully shaking back and forth and I was able to come to terms with the monster that just crossed my path, I realized what it was. Want to know? A BUTTERFLY. A black and orange Monarch butterfly glistening past me in slow motion as I tumbled to my knees.

Needless to say, I abandoned all hope of reconciling with nature so I paddled my butt back to shore, safe where I belong and back into the wonderfulness of air conditioning in the already hot summer days here in Texas.

Better luck next time, right?

Wrong. I attempted camping last weekend.

I will tell you about my near death experiences later. I am going to try to be normal and actually get some sleep in the middle of the night.
